News Story
In April 2023, bbodance held their flagship event, Dance Days, at Elmhurst Ballet School in Birmingham and we were delighted that the bbo team were able to offer subsidised attendance to students from our talent identification programme, Dance Track. Dance Days is a residential programme consisting of three days of multi-genre dance classes, culminating in a showcase of work for an invited audience. The 2023 event saw dancers aged eight to 18 from across the UK come together to work with a fabulous faculty of industry professionals, including former BRB Principal Iain Mackay and Natalie Dodd.
At Dance Days, the Dance Track students took part in classical ballet, musical theatre, contemporary, commercial and jazz, working towards a showcase performed in the Elmhurst Theatre. At the end of the week, the Dance Days faculty selected students to receive awards based on their work across all classes. We were delighted to see three Dance Track students receive awards this year; The Christine Hughes Statue for artistic interpretation to Alyssa, The Ruth Berney Cup for focus and commitment to Joshua and The Peggy Wilson Cup for a promising young student to Remy.
Birmingham Royal Ballet and bbodance are committed to supporting young people in their journey with dance, whether it be as a career pathway or extracurricular activity, so are thrilled to see the two programmes align. Sleeping Beauty Dreams
After three previous hugely successful Dreams productions, we are delighted to announce the return of Sleeping Beauty Dreams. We are looking for dance students aged eight through to 80 and above, who would like the chance to perform on the Birmingham Hippodrome stage alongside some of our very own world-class dancers. Auditions for the project take place in Birmingham on Sunday 25 June and Saturday 1 July, with call backs on 2 July. The final performance takes place on Sunday 25 February, following a period of intensive rehearsals and weekly workshops. Bursaries are available for the programme and you can find out more here or by emailing KatherineField@brb.org.uk
bbodance - Youth Dance Company
Following a successful launch of their new youth dance company, in collaboration with Tavaziva Dance, bbodance are excited to be continuing the company for the academic year 2023/24. Students aged 14-18 attend technical and creative-based studio sessions with Bawren Tavaziva, Artistic Director of Tavaziva Dance. This opportunity is perfect for young dancers wishing to develop their professional practice and gain additional technical training. Technique classes will be in Tavaziva’s unique style of contemporary, ballet and African dance.
