Yvette graduated from the National School of Cuba under the direction of Ramona de Saa, and joined the National Ballet of Cuba in 1987, directed by Alicia Alonso. She became a Principal Soloist with the company and danced a wide classical repertory with highlights including the principal role in La Sylphide, Myrtha Queen of the Willis in Giselle, Mercedes (lover of the Toreador) in Don Quixote,Coppélia, Carmen, Sleeping Beauty, Les Sylphides and Swan Lake amongst others. During her 13 years with the company, Yvette danced on many tours and festivals to New York, the Champs Élysées in Paris, the Melbourne Festival in Australia, Bellas Artes México City, Albeniz in Madrid and many others. She was coached by Loipa Araujo, Azary Plisetzky, Cristina Álvarez, Josefina Méndez, Pablo Moret under the watchful eye of Fernando Alonso. Following her career as a dancer she became a teacher and choreographer with the National Ballet School of Cubaand a guest teacher and répétiteur internationally. In 2000 Yvette received a Bachelor in Methodology and Performing Arts Diploma and moved to Geneva to work on the project Zorba The Grec, under the direction of Etienne Frey, a Swiss choreographer with whom she has remained in close contact. From 2000 to 2024 she worked at Dance Area Geneva, developing the Foundation’s advanced training programme and passing on her knowledge and experience to new generations of dancers. She joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2024.
