Philip Ellis
Conductor of Birmingham Royal Ballet since 1990 (having joined Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet the year before), Philip Ellis is in demand as a guest conductor worldwide.
Phil has appeared regularly with The Royal Ballet at Covent Garden, Paris Opéra Ballet, La Scala Ballet, Mikhailovsky Ballet, Australian Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Royal Swedish Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, Tokyo Ballet and Korean National Ballet. He has also conducted Sarasota Ballet, Angel Corella Ballet throughout Spain, Semper Opera Ballet in Dresden, English National Ballet, Gothenburg Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet, Polish National Ballet and Kobayashi Ballet in Tokyo.
He was the winner of the Leeds Conductors' Competition in 1991 and he was nominated for ‘Best Conductor’ at the inaugural Taglioni European Ballet Awards.
As a concert conductor he has worked with UK orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and was a regular guest conductor with the Hallé Orchestra from 2000 to 2007.
Internationally he has conducted symphonic concerts with orchestras including St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Belgian National Orchestra, BRTN Symphony Brussels, Flanders Symphony Orchestra, Mexican National Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Symphony, Würtembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, Neue Philharmonie Westfallen.
As a conductor for chamber orchestra concerts in UK and abroad, Phil has worked with English Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Northern Sinfonia, Manchester Camerata, and he was Associate Conductor for English Sinfonia (1992 - 2012) and Musical Director for English Camerata (1977 - 1983)
Phil also has broad experience with youth, amateur and community orchestras including Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestras, London College of Music, Nottingham Youth Orchestra, Sherbourne Summer School Symphony Orchestra, Salomon Orchestra, Haydn Chamber Orchestra, Jersey Symphony Orchestra (Principal Conductor, 1995 - 2017), West Forest Sinfonia (Music Director, 1989 - present), Surrey Mozart Players (Music Director).
He has made CD recordings with the Philharmonia and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
