Martin Georgiev
British-Bulgarian conductor and composer Martin Georgiev gained a conducting diploma and PhD in composition at the Royal Academy of Music. He is Staff Conductor for The Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House, where he has been Assistant Conductor since 2003, conducted classical and contemporary productions, and in the current season he is conducting Swan Lake and the world premiere of a new work by Gemma Bond at the Royal Opera House. He has also conducted for The Australian Ballet, the Netherlands Dance Theater, Northern Ballet, Varna International Ballet, and is making a debut with the Balletto di Opera di Roma at the Rome Opera House this season. For Birmingham Royal Ballet he conducted the world premieres of Ignite (nominated for Benois de la Danse, 2018) and A Brief Nostalgia, as well as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet and Rosie Kay’s Romeo + Juliet in collaboration with the Rosie Kay Dance Company. Concert and recording collaborations include the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, Sofia National Philharmonic Orchestra, National Orchestra of Belgium, Varna State Opera and Symphony, a tenure as Composer in Residence to the City of Heidelberg, and the critically acclaimed albums Genesis and Violin Concerto featuring his concert works. Born in Varna, he was laureate of the TACTUS International Composers’ Forum in Brussels, the Grand Prize of the Sofia National Philharmonic Orchestra and over 20 other awards and scholarships.
