Kit Holder
Kit was born in Leamington Spa and grew up in Solihull before training at the Royal Ballet Lower and Upper Schools. He joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2000 and was promoted to First Artist 2007; Soloist 2014; First Soloist 2019. He has danced featured roles throughout the company’s repertoire including ballets by Sir David Bintley, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Sir Frederick Ashton, Sir Peter Wright, George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Hans van Manen, John Cranko and Carlos Acosta. He has choreographed several ballets for the Company, including Small Worlds, Quatrain, 9-5 and Stems. He also choreographed the independent production Wolves Are People Too, a multidisciplinary performance featuring live illustration and live jazz. Kit has been the Artistic Coordinator of BRB2, Birmingham Royal Ballet’s second company, since it’s founding in 2023. In 2024 he retired from performing to become the Artistic Coordinator for the main company. Away from the studio, Kit holds Masters degrees in Choreography and in Sport and Exercise Psychology and is a regular performance consultant in elite sport.
