Nott Ballet

In addition to the Company’s first performances in Nottingham for many years the Department for Learning in partnership with the Renewal Trust, delivered a week of workshops in neighbouring areas of St Anne's and Sneinton. Groups from Nottingham Academy, the Scouts and a Brazilian Soccer School came together and taking inspiration from the ballet The Grand Tour they created their own version of the ballet which was performed at the end of the week at Nottingham Arts Theatre to an audience of friends, families and guests.

The project introduced communities to an art form that they would not have connection with otherwise, introduced the participants to the benefit of working together to achieve a goal, and showcased their achievements to the wider community of Nottingham. The project was documented throughout on film and shows the personal journeys these young people went on from knowing nothing about ballet to performing on stage.

The groups all came to see Birmingham Royal Ballet’s performance had an opportunity to watch the Company in class and talk to the dancers.

It was very exciting to work with the Renewal Trust and to reach out into the communities of Nottingham and to introduce them to an art form they may never have otherwise experienced. A project like this encourages participants to try something new, step out of their comfort zone and achieve something they had imagined to be impossible.

'Thank you so much for all you have done to inspire our children. It has been an amazing journey for us all. You have taken us all to places we may not have thought possible and we are thankful for that.' Parent

'For the young people of the Brazilian Soccer Schools programme, this was not only fun, but also beneficial in helping with their balance and co-ordination and was a great form of exercise ! It was a great opportunity to learn a different form of culture and dance too. It’s always good to challenge the young people and take them out of their comfort zones. ' Brazilian Soccer School coach

'...the young people from Nottingham City Scouts feel proud and honoured to have taken part in this project. We enjoyed participating and thank all those responsible for allowing us to take part. ' Nottingham City Scouts
