Pauline Clayden

Born in London, Pauline Clayden studied at the Cone Ballet School before dancing with London Ballet, Ballet Rambert and, as a soloist, with Sadler's Wells Ballet (1942-56), dancing many of the roles made for Fonteyn and creating roles in de Valois' Promenade, Helpmann's Miracle in the Gorbals, Ashton's Cinderella, Cranko's Bonne-Bouche and Howard's Veneziana. She left the Company to start a family. Later she taught repertory at a local dance school. She worked with Ashton and Michael Somes on a revival of Daphnis and Chloë for The Royal Ballet and she choreographed a short ballet for the Cecchetti Society scholars.
