WiSH Team visit

On Tuesday 13 November we welcomed a group from the WiSH Team into the world of Birmingham Royal Ballet. WiSH (Worklessness in Shard End and Handsworth) is Birmingham’s DWP Worklessness Co-Design pilot project in conjunction with partner organisations, including Jobcentre Plus and Birmingham City Council, to explore how they can best work together to tackle Worklessness and support people back into work.

The day was aimed at giving staff affiliated with the project an insight into the work of the Department for Learning as well as an introduction to the Company. During the day the group watched our male dancers in their daily class, had a tour of the building and experienced a creative ballet workshop led by our Head of Creative Learning, Lee Fisher. The workshop aimed to offer some practical examples of how a learning project may engage with a group of non-dancers and get the group on their feet as you can see by these photos!

We hope that this is the start of future partnerships with this group from which some exciting new community projects can grow.

' This was a fantastic opportunity for the WiSH Team to experience a day at Birmingham Royal Ballet and gain an insight into how BRB operate behind the scenes. It was a fun day and a great learning experience for all those involved.

We look forward to partnership work with the Company to help those from disadvantaged backgrounds and participate in future community projects.

Went to see the Cinderella performance on Saturday night, and what a fantastic performance it was. was my first viewing of a ballet and definitely won't be my last. Even recognised some of the performers from the dance master class we watched on our visit!!!!' Gaz Tamana, Outreach Coach, WiSH project

' I always wondered what possible enjoyment others get from watching and getting involved with ballet. Following the workshop, I now appreciate the enjoyment one experiences from watching and getting involved with this beautiful activity' Maureen Jeffers, Outreach Coach, WiSH project
