Dance provides purposeful activity, builds connections between generations and communities and creates events ands opportunities for people to come together.
Birmingham Royal Ballet’s workshops are designed to ensure they are appropriate and accessible for the participants and are fully inclusive where appropriate or are planned for groups with specific needs.
Our specialism is with learning disabled participants and for over a decade the department has worked in partnership with Fox Hollies school to ensure we provide the very best opportunities for learning disabled people. Freefall Dance Company is a fine example of what can be achieved through dance for young people with severe learning difficulties and are in demand at conferences, teacher training events and performances across the UK . The work with Freefall has gone on to influence our practice across all the work of the Learning Department.
The evaluation of Ballet, Birmingham and Me highlighted our work with those with special needs as excellent practice, as shown on p.25 of the project report.
