Christopher Barron adds to praise for Desmond Kelly
June 26, 2008
Birmingham Royal Ballet's Chief Executive, Christopher Barron, praised Assistant Director Desmond Kelly, who retires at the end of this season. The comments were made earlier this month, regarding Desmond's appointment as Artistic Director of Elmhurst School for Dance. Elmhurst is the Company's associated ballet school.
'Desmond has been a unique influence on many of Birmingham Royal Ballet's dancers,' said Christopher, 'and all of us here look forward to meeting the young performers who will be lucky enough to study at Elmhurst School for Dance during his time as Artistic Director of the school.'
Desmond said recently that he hoped to bring Birmingham Royal Ballet and Elmhurst closer to one another, saying: 'I'm determined to cement the relationship and make it much, much closer. So that when the kids and the parents think of Elmhurst, they also think of Birmingham Royal Ballet, and the other way round - to put the two together in people's minds.'
Birmingham Royal Ballet presents a Gala evening in celebration of the career of Desmond Kelly, 28 June 2008, which will include a tribute from Elmhurst students. Click here to find out more.
