Aston Villa Youth Squad visit Birmingham Royal Ballet
In early 2012, Aston Villa's next generation of stars paid a visit to Birmingham Royal Ballet to learn about how our dancers train and perform and the comparisons that can be made with professional footballers.
During their action-packed day, members of the under-15s squad experienced a body conditioning class, a ballet technique master-class and creative dance workshop led by Company dancer, Kit Holder and a presentation from Nick Allen from Birmingham Royal Ballet's Jerwood Centre for the Prevention and Treatment of Dance Injuries.
The day came about as a result of the ongoing partnership between Birmingham Royal Ballet and AVFC. The under-17s trained with Birmingham Royal Ballet last year and Steve Burns, Villa’s assistant academy manager, said it had already paid dividends, with three of the squad featuring in the England Under-17s team.
The academy have also been learning about our talent identification programme, Dance Track, and plan to develop their own scheme in future.
'It gave them a different perspective of professional athletes, right down to their movements and diet.' Steve Burns, Assistant Academy Manager
